Won't condense files upon closure; won't save properly; won't send error report; slow

I’m working on a podcast, using Windows NT. None of my files are able to save or load properly and I can’t send the crash reports.

Audacity is rarely compressing (condensing) the files upon closure like it’s supposed to. This resulted in my files being HUGE last week. I’ve been trying to work around the issue by creating multiple small files, but the issue may be getting worse.

Also, some files have the issue where everything takes a very long time to do (ex: increasing the volume of 2 seconds’ worth of audio might take 20 seconds, and I even have to wait about 10 seconds after clicking on mute to mute one of the two tracks). The files aren’t big enough to justify this lag, and my computer is otherwise fast… even in other Audacity files. In most files, everything I do is instantaneous (muting a track, increasing or decreasing the volume of a piece of audio, etc.).

Error reports haven’t been sending at all for two or more weeks.
