Hi. Is there any way to set the default volume mixer value to something less than 100 when Audacity starts? At 100 my recordings are all distorted because the recording level is too high. When I record audio from certain web sites, a value of 70 is perfect.
It may depend on your operating system and how you are recording streaming audio (which is always a bit of a “hack”) but that’s weird… “100” is 100% so you should be getting exactly what’s being streamed and it shouldn’t be boosted into clipping.
…All of the popular streaming services use loudness normalization which tends to lower the volume of most (but not all) tracks.
Hi and thank you.
The recording level I was referring to is the Windows System Volume mixer setting. The Audacity entry is not there when Audacity is closed, and only appears when Audacity is running. And, when Audacity starts, the setting always starts at 100%. At this 100% level the audio sounds the same as overmodulated feedback.
I tried to paste a JGP of the Windows setting window. If it does not appear, I apologize that I am doing it incorrectly.
I am bringing this topic to the group because I never experienced this until recently. I do not know if it is a Windows 11 “feature” or a change in the way Audacity starts.
