Windows 11 forcing Audacity to automatically open a newly created mp3 file

I just switched to a Windows 11 PC. It appears to be a Windows function that is forcing Audacity to automatically open a newly created MP3 file saved to my desktop. This is annoying, to say the least.
Can anyone help me with this? I know when I want to open a file. I don’t need it happening automatically.

Possibly Windows file associations.
You have to instruct Windows which program to use as the default for mp3 files … https://www.howtogeek.com/746203/how-to-set-your-default-apps-on-windows-11/

The issue is not allowing Audacityy to open an MP3, - it is the “automatically open a newly created file” situation that is the issue.

Can you explain that a bit more? What triggers it to automatically open?

Does it Windows automatically open Audacity and that MP3 every time you start Windows?

Does Audacity automatically open that MP3 every time you start Audacity?

Something else?

My assumption is that it is a function of the os.

When I create a new Mp3 file - as noted in my original post - it is then automatically opened by Audacity. I did not command Audacity to open the file. It happens automatically. This is during normal operation with the PC of course already started and running. Audacity is not open and running. It fires up and automatically opens the newly created file.

Without clicking on it?

If it happens when you double-click the MP3 you need to change your MP3 File Association to Windows Media Player or whatever you want to use as the default for MP3s.

You are of no assistance. You are unable to comprehend the text that spells out the specific issue.
Just stop.

OK I’ll stop. This is my last reply.

…But I don’t believe that Windows is opening a file by itself.
