I have used Audacity since 2010 to record mp3s for years on my computer. Then suddenly it stoped. I tried all Windows audio settings, e.g. Windows Sound Mapper etc. I tripled checked all settings. I checked the transform. Nothing worked. Then I had an idea. The problem was with Windows.
I downloaded Fortect free version. It scanned the Windows program files, found errors and fixed them.
I am recording happily ever after.

I’m sorry that it may not be helpful to anyone. Fortect did not tell me what problems in the Windows operating system needed repair. And I can agree with you that probably no one here has encountered the problem. I posted it because such a thing never happened in my 16 years of using Audacity. I hope that nobody ever has this highly unusual problem.
