Why is audacity deleting my tracks when I use noise reduction

Why is audacity deleting my tracks when I use noise reduction? I’ve seen people talking about how it could be because the sensitivity is too high, but I set everything to 0 and it just deletes the track. The preview doesn’t have any sound because it’s just deleting it.
Noise gate is doing the exact same thing, just deleting whatever I try to apply it to.

I can’t reproduce this with Audacity 3.6.1.

Which version of Audacity are you using? Can you give us detailed steps to reproduce the issue?

I just had it updated, so version 3.6. It isn’t happening on older recordings, and when I’ve copy pasted the track to a new audacity window it does the same thing.
I select a section for noise reduction, let it scan, then apply that to the rest of the track. Ive tried various noise reduction settings, but the preview is silent, and the track keeps just disappearing.

What does that mean? You open an old project and Noise Reduction works, but Noise Reductions fails only with a new project?

Try Tools (menu) > Reset Configuration

Yes, and now it is happening with other tools, like. change speed and pitch. It just deletes the selected section.

And it is still doing it with the reset configuration.

Time for a complete reset.

Quit Audacity.

I assume you’re on macOS

In the Finder, click on Go (menu) > Go to folder
In the dialog, enter ~/Library/Application Support/audacity/
Delete the file audacity.cfg

Open Audacity. Try it out.

If you’re on Windows, see Resetting Audacity | Audacity Support

If you select the whole track as Profile, then Audacity will try to remove the whole track when you apply it.

Drag-select a portion of the track typical of what you don’t want. Noise Reduction > Profile.

Then select the whole track and apply.
