Why can't I see forum threads?

steve helped me with a question in one of the Help forums and suggested I make a separate post about my meta-question.

When I was searching for forum threads which had the words “mechanical” and “keyboard” in it, I was interested in this link from a 2015 thread: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/removing-mechanical-keyboard-noise-in-realtime/37393/1

When I clicked the link, I got an error message which stated “No posts exist inside this topic for the selected time frame.” I then found the same thread which I had created, clicked it, and then the error message said “The requested topic does not exist.” ETA: I just opened the link in an incognito window and the thread appeared just fine.

What am I doing wrong? [Is it my cache?]

The forum search has both a simple mode, and an “advanced” mode (with search options).

For a simple search, you just enter your search term in the search box (top right corner of the forum) and either press “Enter”, or click the magnifier icon.
For the "advanced search, you need to click the “gear / cog” icon next to the search, and you will be taken to a page with search options.

Which were you doing, as simple or an advanced search?

I did both. I also clicked directly on the link as well as right-clicking to use “Open link in new tab” (in Chrome) as is my usual preference for opening up links I find via keyword searches. Same result all four times.

With the “Advanced” search it’s possible to get that kind of message if the settings exclude all results.
I don’t know why or how it could occur with the simple search - maybe the forum software was having a bad day. Are you able to reproduce the problem now?

Yep. This time, I used the keywords “sampling”, “rate”, and “dragon” and performed a simple search. I got the error message when clicking directly and right-clicking, did not when I used “Open link in incognito window”.

Could you tell me the complete error message?
(I’ve not found any explanation, or been able to reproduce the problem, but maybe the error message may shed some light).

The exact error message is:

There’s something strange about your forum account. As shown above, BBCodes are disabled in your posts, so forum mark-up (such as the “[code]” tags above) don’t display properly.

I’ll take a look to see if I can find what’s going on with your account.

Have you modified your forum user settings / preferences?

I have not done so recently. Also, this is the second time I have posted this response because the first one had been “disapproved” due to it being a duplicate? I do not believe I responded twice, but maybe that’s also a symptom of this problem?

I think that the issues may be due to some of your (non-default) settings.
Would you like me to try and fix them (this will require me to change some of your forum user settings / preferences).

Yes, please investigate, make changes, and summarize what you’ve changed when you’re done?

I’ll send you a PM (see “private messages” near the top right of the forum).
