Which Effect can be used to smooth the wave?

Hi,

I’m trying to edit a track. One section was not strong enough so I use Amplify to raise it. But it leaves two steps on the wave. Please see screenshot below. Which Effect can be used to smooth the steps.

I guess there might be another effect that can smoothly amplify a section but I’m not sure if it’s available.

I hope you saved a copy of the original…

The Envelope Tool can be used to fade-up or fade-down parts of the program.

Or, the compressor and limiting effects tend to even-out the loudness. Both of these effects “push down” the loud parts (or peaks) and then make-up gain is normally applied to bring-up the overall loudness.

Thanks so much for the information and nice demo. Very useful feature.

Depending on what you’re doing, there may be completely automated ways of fixing volume problems. What’s the show or goal?

I usually edit tracks of accompaniment and recorded sax performance. Sometimes, they are not perfect so I need to make minor changes manually after having both tracks.

OK, then as above, the Envelope Tool can give you the ability to click and drag corrections without leaving abrupt changes (unless you want them).

Thanks for your help.

One more question on the Envelope Tool. It seems I cannot amplify the wave further with Envelope Tool once the little white-colored dots reach the dotted lines at top and bottom of the wave. Please see attached screenshot below. Would it be possible to amplify the wave further?

If you zoom-out on the vertical scale you can move the dots to +/-2 , (rather than +/-1) …

Thanks for the information. x2 works well.
