Where is the recording volume slider?

I’m brand spanking new to Audacity and have installed v3.6.1. My first test recording is horribly quiet. A tutorial I’m following shows a slider to increase the recording volume (and alongside it, a volume slider for playback, I think,) but I can’t find that at all. I see the recording and playback meters, but not how to make my recordings not sound like I’m whispering from across the room. What am I missing?

(I would put screenshots here, but I"m not sure the forum’ll let me. Looks weird when I try.)

The recording and playback volume sliders are now combined (“hidden”) in the recording & playback meters.

With USB audio devices, the microphone volume may not work. (You generally need to adjust the analog level before it’s digitized.)

Windows also has a separate Microphone Boost.

Thank you for the feedback. I eventually had to download a program called Equalizer APO that gave me the ability to boost my USB microphone. Win11 had no boost option in the properties and everything else was cranked up to maximum. It’s very frustrating and obnoxious, but I got there! Hopefully it’s enough.
