What has happened to loudspeaker recording?

Hi!

I would like to flag a new recording bug that has emerged with one of the most recent updates to Audacity because this didn’t use to be an issue before. Audacity has begun skipping/omitting sound when it comes through loudspeakers, such as a microphone or a phone or laptop loudspeaker. Meaning it doesn’t get recorded or at least not properly. Anyone experiencing the same issue?

Has some kind of a new feature been introduced to “fix” an echo or the metallic rattle that loudspeakers and microphones give? This is proving very very counterproductive, because I can no longer rely on Audacity to record and transcribe speech. It’s just omitting and skipping too many words and the transcriptions become nonsensical.

If there’s a setting or a quick fix that can solve this, I’d be very grateful to hear! thanks in advance for any tips.

Plan-B: revert to a previous version of Audacity … Old Audacity versions download

Plan-C : use free recording software which uses all the cores of your computer, so less likely to hiccup.

Assuming you are on Windows, make sure Windows “Enhancements” are turned OFF. .
