What happened to Advanced Vertical Zooming?

Just upgraded to 3.5.1 from 3.3.x and, although I chose to keep my preferences, I can no longer click on the vertical scale to zoom in. (sigh)

So, I painstakingly looked at every Preferences page trying to find anything to restore that functionality to no avail.

Seems it used to be on the Tracks Behaviors page… but no more.

How do I get back the left-click Zoom In and the shift-click Zoom Out?

It was removed from waveform views as the new designers think that it is only useful for spectrogram view. There is some discussion about removal of this feature: Symmetric vertical zoom by LWinterberg · Pull Request #5685 · audacity/audacity · GitHub

The only way to get it back is to revert to an older version of Audacity.

Thanks for the quick, informed reply.

Count me among those who used that feature ALL THE TIME and, rather than resort to right-clicking and selecting from the pop-up menu, I’ll revert to an earlier release.

Thanks again. Much appreciated.

FWIW, I’m also using an old version of Audacity.

Does it zoom in and out if you hold Ctrl and scroll the mouse wheel?

Sort of, but it only does so in giant steps of x2 or x0.5, and can only zoom in centred on the track’s middle line.

If, for example, you want to zoom in on the range 0.8 to 1.0, you have to “Ctrl + Mouse wheel” to zoom in to -0.1 to +0.1, then change to “Shift + Mouse wheel” to scroll up to the desired range.

“Advance Vertical Zoom” allowed us to simply click and drag the required range. Much quicker. Much more convenient. Much smoother workflow.

Interesting. That must have changed sometime after version 3.2.4. In 3.2.4 I can point the mouse cursor at 0.9 and Ctrl-scroll until I get the zoom level I want (about 3 steps). But yes, clicking and dragging a range to zoom into is a lot more convenient, and it would be nice to have it back.
