WAY TO FILL IN SPACE BETWEEN TRACKS??

I’m wondering:

Is there a way to fill in the blank space between or in front of tracks, so that when I export multiple files they start at the beginning? Like, for example, when I’m recording a part over a track and I’m starting in the middle of the song…

I’ve developed a hack where I copy and paste another track, “silence the audio”, then merge it with the track I’m trying to fill in/ extend with blank sound, but I’m thinking there has to be a simpler way…

Did that make sense?

Would really like to know…

Thanks!

Assuming that you are using Audacity 2.4.2 (if not, you will need to update to get this feature)
“Edit menu > Preferences > Import / Export”

Ensure that “Ignore blank spaces at the beginning” is NOT selected.

Empty space at the start of the track will then be automatically rendered as silence when you export.
