Is it a known bug? Will it be fixed on future versions?
I don’t understand the question. Do you mean “crashes”?
Can you give exact steps to reproduce the issue?
Audacity does not do “WAV to AAC conversion”, but does support export in AAC (M4A) format.
If I do File > Export and choose M4A (AAC) Files (FFmpeg) I can successfully export an m4a file.
Crashes, as in the app closes and the file isn’t converted to AAC (M4A) format.
And I sent crash reports several times, so the tech data is there.
I’m a Windows user so I can’t help but it might be helpful to clarify if you can export as WAV (or MP3, etc.).
AAC uses the optional FFmpeg library so it might be a problem with FFmpeg.
WAV/MP3/OGG conversions work fine.
I hope the relevant people will get the crash info and that things will be fixed very soon.
Thank you!
We might be able to fix this for you sooner than waiting for a code fix.
What model of Mac and what version of macOS are you using?
Do you have the latest version of FFmpeg installed?
Go to Audacity (menu) > Preferences > Library to see the FFmpeg version numbers. The three numbers should end in “.100”.
See Installing FFmpeg | Audacity Support
As I said, Export to AAC works fine for me on my M1 Macbook Air with macOS 14.6.1.
