wav/midi file how to change instrument from piano to guita

I have a music file saved in wav and midi format. One of the parts is a piano and I would like to change it to guitar. Is this possible to do in Audacity?

If not possible could someone recommend a software program or online website that will let me make this change?

Thank you in advance for any help,
yeto

Not in Audacity, but it’s a snap to do in a MIDI interpreter or programmer. I used to do that with my electronic organ connected to my computer. Cakewalk program rings a bell. Do they still make that?

The way mine worked, I edited the MIDI file and substituted the “Instrument” instruction from “Piano-1” to “Trumpet-1” for example. When I sent the MIDI file to the keyboard, it would play the trumpet.

MIDI is just a series of music instructions, it’s not really music. It’s like rolling up a stack of paper sheet music and trying to listen to it.

Audacity has just enough MIDI tools so we can’t say there are no tools, but not enough to be useful.

Yes, this is exactly what I need to do. I am looking for just some simple software to perform this one function.

You need a “MIDI Sequencer”.
I rarely use Windows, but some suggestions here: Windows 7 Vista XP Music Software: MIDI Sequencers (Hitsquad)
