WASAPI: oversaturated recordings and inability to alter recording levels

Hello,
I have two PC’s (one running Windows 11 and the other Windows 10). Using WASAPI as the recording interface host (Speaker/HP (Realtek high definition audio) as playback device and the same (but with loopback) as the recording device rather than Stereo Mix to record from the internet, the Win10 system oversaturates the recording (pings the meter) fairly often (while the win11 system does not). Adjusting the input recording levels does nothing, adjusting the system sound levels does nothing, and adjusting the input source volume does nothing. Why might this be? It seems to be a fairly common issue from what I have read in this forum.

The only other differences between my win10 and win11 systems is that the win10 system does not show headphones as a specific recording device in the device manager under sound (it does not show Stereo Mix either as disconnected or disabled - which I also know is an oddity with some versions of Windows 10 (I have the Home edition)). If it appears to be solely a Win10 issue, the laptop it is on is unable to upgrade to win11 because of hardware limitations.

Any help or potential solutions would be appreciated.

Make sure Audible input monitoring is turned OFF.

When you are recording what you’re playing and playing what you’re recording it makes an internal feedback loop.

Thanks DVDDoug for the reply. However, this was already unchecked before attempting to record.
