Volume increase on export to mp3

Hi In this screen shot the top track is the one I exported. The bottom track is the resultant mp3 imported back into Audacity for comparison. It was the exporting that caused the volume increase. This has never happen before - is it a bug or is there something I can do to fix it? Thanks

It looks like you have a compressor (with make-up gain) engaged.
Realtime effects are applied when you export.

Thanks Trebor, that’s very helpful - I didn’t realise realtime effects work like that. Is there any way of viewing in Audacity, before exporting, what the impact of the effect will be?

Mix and render to a new track.

[ Exporting to mp3 can add 1 or 2dB to some peaks,
so if you want to avoid clipping leave 1 or 2dB of headroom before exporting to mp3 ].

Problem solved. Your help is much appreciated, Trebor
