I am a newbie, and was referred by Voices.com. I am not very computer savvy, and I need some verbal help in downloading and getting started recording and changing it into an MP 3. I am behind in getting my recording started for my business, and going forward, but I do not know what or how to get started, and I need some help for I do not even know which one I need to install because of reading about the hack, etc. I have a Dell Windows 7 Vista desktop, and an HP Windows 10 laptop. I will await a reply.Thank you.
I’ve removed the email address from your post because (a) as a volunteer based project we do not have the resources to provide personal email support, (b) it’s a very bad idea to post your email address on public forums as “spambots” trawl through websites searching for new victims.
Download Audacity from here: Audacity ® | Download for Windows
Get the version that says “Audacity 2.1.2 installer (25.3 MB, includes help files)”
To install the program, download it, then go to where you have downloaded it, then double click on the downloaded “.exe” file and follow the on-screen instructions.
To export as MP3, you will also need to install LAME. See here for instructions: FAQ:Installation, Startup and Plugins - Audacity Manual
Before you start:
Note that Audacity works in its own “Audacity project format”. This is comprised of a data folder (the name ends with “_data”) and a project file (which is an “AUP” file). An Audacity project is not an ordinary audio file and it will only work in Audacity. To create a normal audio file you need to “Export” the audio (File menu > Export > Audio).
The full user manual is included in the recommended download. and when Audacity is installed you can access the manual via Audacity’s “Help” menu.
There is a collection of “getting started” tutorials here that you may find useful: Tutorial - Your First Recording - Audacity Manual (also available in the installed manual - look in the front page of the manual for the “Tutorials” section)
