Voice not in sync

Hi, I’ve recorded a podcast with two USB microphones on an Apple lap top (merging them in Audio midi). When I listen to the recording, it is as if the right and left side of one voice recording in not synced, resulting in a sound of two different voices. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem is? I did not use headphones, could it be that the sound is being recorded twice due to the speakers? Thanks!

I tried mixing down stereo to mono (the recording was done in stereo), it sounds slightly better

You can click & drag on the track name above the waveform to slide it left or right. Zooming-in to align the waveforms visually should help.

If it’s an actual stereo track you’ll need to Split Stereo Track in order to edit them separately.

It would also help next time if you clap your hands in the beginning to get something that’s easier to synchronize. And if there is video that can work as a clapperboard to get the audio & video in-sync.

…They won’t stay perfectly in-sync because they each have their own clock (oscillator) which generates the sample-rate clock (44.1kHz, etc.). It will depend on how closely the match and the length of the recording. If it drifts-out noticeably you may have to chop the recording into sections and re-synchronize.

A better solution is a stereo interface or a USB mixer (and analog mics). Or maybe a stereo mic like the Blue Yeti if that will work for you.

That can potentially make it worse because very-slight timing differences will create “phasing” (comb filtering) when the same sound exists in both sides. That shouldn’t be a problem if the left & right audio is different-enough.

Great advice, thank you so much!
