Voice Isolation and/or Instrumental isolation

I need help. I am currently working on an artists cd and he wants to rerecord h is lyrics over the song but he cannot separate the voice from the music so he can rerecord because the software he used was uninstalled along with the project files. so all he is left with is the finished product which he cant separate. I hear audacity can Split the two (voice from instruments) but I do not know how. I don not have just a instrumental but I have the finished product. How do I Split the Voice from the Instumental? PLZ Help

In the most optimistic case Audacity can remove the voice from a music track quite well using the “Vocal Removal” effect (Audacity Manual), but it requires:

  1. The recording is stereo
  2. The voice is “dead centre” of the stero mix
  3. The instruments are panned left/right

All three conditions must be met, otherwise the technique will fail.

See here in the manual for more information: Audacity Manual

Vocal removal effects can be fun to play with but it’s very unlikely that you are going to the kind of quality you’d want for a CD. :frowning:

I think you’re stuck with what you’ve already got, or it’s back to square one in the studio.
