I am aware that there are some projects in the works to add video support to Audacity 4. However, as with all Muse development and rewrites lately (MuseScore and now Audacity), implementation of pre-existing features is slow enough and the addition of new features is an unbearable crawl.
I created a stand-alone app for myself to gain this feature for use in my film scoring pipeline. This is not a plugin or extension (as there is no lane for this in Audacity 4 right now). The premise is simple. The app reads the time code from Audacity 00h00m00.000s and synchronizes a video scraper. This means that video is always showing the correct point in relation to the time code readout.

I made this for Linux because I am exclusively a Linux user. But I have just ported it to Windows. I will be working on a MacOS port soon, but I have not tested the Windows version against Audacity 4. Here is the github page for the project:
The builds are available in the “releases” section, but the source code is also available with builds in the dist folders.
If any Windows users out there care to try it, please report back and let me know if there are problems. Frankly, if there are, then I will probably just terminate the cross platform builds and use it for myself on Linux as I don’t have much time for development and trouble shooting. I just figured that this tactic might be useful to those that have been waiting years for a concise implementation of this feature. Feel free to take it and rework the concept as you see fit.
