I got an HDMI video capture card to USB but it’s mono sound. At least it’s a center mono so it will be good to my ears but I’m digitizing my vinyl records and I want to get real stereo from AV, I can’t change the capture card sound to stereo on Windows settings!
What should I do?
That’s really weird but if you can’t configure Windows for stereo you’re not going to get stereo in Audacity. Audacity gets the digital audio stream from the operating system and the drivers so both Windows and Audacity have to be set for stereo.
Make sure you are configuring the USB device, and not the mic in your laptop which is usually mono.
Unplug one side at a time while recording to make sure you’re getting both sides.
It would be a shame to digitize your records in mono. If it was me I wouldn’t do it until the problem is solved, even if that meant buying another audio interface. (I’m not saying that would solve your problem, and I’d be shocked of your A/V capture device is mono-only.)
Could you share the make and model of the USB capture card, please?

That was fast! I see no make/model written there. Do you have a manual or any other identifying info’? A Google image search gave many different makes all showing exactly the same image.

So when I look at the properties of the capture card on Windows it let me choose only mono.
I was trying to find a specification that mentions stereo or even a review where someone says it is/isn’t but I found nothing yet.
