Greetings All. I searched and reviewed the ‘Victrola recording’ topics and seem to have discovered a new issue. My set-up is an HP Envy x360 laptop running Windows 11 ver 2H2 Build 26300.7462. Audacity is ver 3.7.7 which I updated to last week when I loaded the ffMeg library. Attached is my 22 second-long test which consists of:
0-7 sec (me talking by the Victrola, about six feet from the laptop)
8 sec (a brief distorted sound when I set the reproducer/needle on the record)
18 sec to end (me talking OVER the music while lifting up the reproducer, stopping the music)
The recording of my voice using the cheap, internal microphone at that distance was surprisingly good. Interestingly, during the 9-17 second interval while the music is playing, significantly louder than my voice, it is completely absent from the audio track! It almost seems as if Audacity is applying a filter or a volume threshold. It’s baffling. Your thoughts are welcome.
John
