version of Audicity

Hello everyone,
It’s the first time in this forum. I speak a little English so I’m using a translator. Sorry for the writing errors.
I have a mac book pro mid 2012 - SO 10.15.7 -
2.3 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
It’s an old mac. I would kindly like to know which version of Audicity I should download to turn old music cassettes to mp3. I kindly ask you to write me the link.
And if possible also some information.
Thank you very much.

I don’t use Mac so I can’t help with the software version. However, these 2 YouTube videos will help you with the process of doing what you want.

  1. How to transfer a cassette tape to MP3
  2. How to title and export songs

And this free chapter from ‘The Book of Audacity’ will help too: Chapter 3 - The Book of Audacity from 2011.
Regards,
Mark B

I cannot definitely tell you which version is best for you. macOS 10.15.7 (Catalina) is the first macOS version requiring all applications to be 64bit. I can say for sure that Audacity 2.4.2 is 64bit, so it should work on your MacBook. Of course, you can also try later versions. Please note that with 2.4.2 you probably need to install ffmpeg.

Do you have an external sound card for your MacBook? If it is a “Retina” of mid-2012, it does not have a proper sound input, you need an external sound card and feed the sound via USB. The MBP “before Retina” still have a sound-input connector (switchable between input and output in the system settings).
