V2.0.3 On Windows XP

My apologies as I am not very computer literate. Trying to install Audacity version 2.0.3 on an older PC with Windows XP. When I load the disk, all appears well until the very end of the process when a message states “CreateProcess Failed; code 14001. This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.” Can anyone out there help me with this fundamental install question? What do I eyed to do to get this software to install? Thanks in advance for any help.

Audacity 2.0.3 is obsolete.
XP is obsolete.
Do you have 32 bit XP or 64 bit XP?
If the 32-bit version, you need to have SP3 installed.
If the 64-bit version, you need to have SP2 installed.
If you computer has SSE2 support, please use the current 2.1.2 version of Audacity, if not, please use version 2.0.6.
You should seriously consider upgrading your operating system.

Just to clarify one point, it’s SSE2 that is explicitly required for Audacity 2.1.2. Audacity 2.1.0 and later won’t run with only SSE.

If you also see “entry point not found”, then the problem is the Service Pack of Windows as mentioned by Steve. This FAQ will help you obtain the required service pack http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq_installation_and_plug_ins.html#entry_point.
