I just ran into an issue with editing my audio, using Silence Audio COMMAND L for a mac now splits my track. When I close my project and re-open it there is now space added to where I silenced the audio.

I don’t have a Mac, so this answer is just speculation from me that I cannot confirm.
Look for a setting that says “Editing a clip can move other clips” and toggle it to the opposite of what it currently is and see if that makes a difference.
Are you saying the track is split into two clips?
I’m not seeing this with Audacity 3.7.7 on a Macbook Pro. New project, import audio, select and silence a portion, save and close project, re-open project. The silenced portion is still there, as it should be.
