Using Parametric EQ

I would like to adjust EQ on a track while it is playing. So far options I have found only allow adjusts via a short preview of the track.

Mac OS 10.14.6
Audacity 3.1.2

For built-in EQ effects, you can increase the length of the preview in Preferences (https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/playback_preferences.html - default 6 seconds). Don’t be afraid of setting a long length - the preview can be cancelled if you don’t want to listen to it all.

Unfortunately, with Audacity’s EQ effects, you cannot adjust the settings during preview playback. However you can add other plug-ins to Audacity that do allow you to adjust controls while previewing. VST effects can do this, and I think that AU effects can also. As you are on macOS, you probably already have an EQ AU effect installed, in which case you will just need to enable it in the plug-in manager (See: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/manage_effects_generators_and_analyzers.html)

MacOS comes with quite a few AU effects built-in and you can preview and adjust in real time.
For EQ, you have several options:

Great! I was able to enable the AU Mac Plug-ins. I prefer the parametric EQ for my purposes. So far I can only manage one edit point in the interface. Best option so far was to apply the EQ more than once concentrating on a different desired boost range each time.

I did also note a post about NyQuist plug-ins and downloaded one. Where to install?

See here for how to install Nyquist plug-ins on macOS: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/installing_effect_generator_and_analyzer_plug_ins_on_mac_os_x.html#nyquist_install

That’s true with the AUParametricEQ. Try the AUNBandEQ.
