Using Bose T4 Mixer with USB Connection to Laptop - Failing

I have a windows 11 laptop that I have been using to record my vocals over instrumental tracks. I am using Audacity 3.7.1. All was working well up until a day ago. I have my Mic and headphones plugged into my mixer and the mixer attached to the laptop using a USB connection. The mixer is seen by Audacity. I set the recording device to Line (T4 tone match), recording channel to (Mono) Recording Channel), Output channel to Microsoft Sound mapper (Output) and then select enable silent monitoring.

This configuration was working fine for weeks. Now it isn’t. When I hit record, the music track plays, the new track is moving, but the mic is not sending the vocal signal to be recorded. All I see is a recording flat line. Is there some way I can check why it is now failing?

Thank you
Tony

That sure sounds like a privacy permission problem. Windows probably did an update that changed something.

I have solved the problem. It appears my USB To and From settings were reset and needed to be updated properly for the connection to work. All is well now.

Thank you

Until the next event. What was the event? As above, did your machine do an update? Did you perform a Skype or Zoom conversation? Those are famous for scrambling the machine.

The issue was with my BOSE mixer settings. The USB settings to and from the mixer to the PC were reset to the defaults. I reset the USB to PC to CH1 Left and Right that I use for my Mic and the USB from PC to CH4 Left and Right. After that it was back on track. This was strictly a BOSE issue. Nothing to do with Audacity

Because.…? Can you intentionally cause it to fail?

This is a senior troubleshooting thing. If you don’t know everything about the failure, it’s just going to happen again, usually at the worst possible time.

Wild guess. Do you have occasional neighborhood power problems? California has had some interesting power failures with the fires and all. I have a tiny backup battery system for the office machine. When it beeps, I know I have to gently shut down immediately. No crashing.
