Hi. Thanks for taking my question. I’m running W11, Audacity 3.7.7, Yamaha MG10XU. Output from Yamaha is at perfect levels however, audacity register a +29-37. Any idea why. If I push the mixer to the max, I get noise. If I push Audacity, I get noise. Thanks for your help
You don’t really mean plus 29dB, do you??? Standard analog-to-digital converters don’t go over 0dB so digital dB levels are normally negative.
Assuming those are negative dB levels and it’s “too quiet”, make sure Windows “Enhancements” are turned OFF. Those “enhancements” can foul-up the sound in all kinds of weird ways and it seems to be “really good” at filtering-out everything except spoken word.
Also, check Audacity’s recording volume slider, which is “hidden” under the recording level meters. (Usually the recording volume slider doesn’t work with USB input but it’s worth a quick-check.)
Hi Doug,
Apologies for not getting back to you sooner. I want to screen record what is going on, to be more accurate and complete. I’ve never done this before so give me a few days.
Hi Doug, Again, sorry for the delay.
T1: I’m using WASAP /Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver, and with Think Pad’s mic and speakers. No enhancements. Aud waveform is good as is the playback vol.
T2: Wasapi/Steinberg,Yamaha mg10xu mic @ -06 - 0. Speaker is still Laptop’s. Why is the waveform so much smaller? In order for me to get the same level of playback, I need to increase aud’s slider on the left to +8. If the mixer is outputting a strong signal to Windows, the property sheet says 0.0db, why does aud see it as so low.
