I downloaded the new audacity for my mac and noticed there is no way to access USB CODEC. I need it to record from Audio-Technica USB turntable. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you resolve it. The old version of Audacity had a drop down to convert, but the new version doesn’t.
Make sure the Device toolbar is showing. If it isn’t, do View > Toolbars and make sure that Device Toolbar is checked.
If the Device Toolbar is checked in the menu but you can’t see it, choose the Reset Toolbars menu item.
Plug in the turntable and make sure it is turned on. Then start Audacity. “USB Audio Codec” should appear as an option in the recording device dropdown of the Device toolbar.

Hello Bill
I tried your recommendation, but my recording drop down in preferences only has Built-in Microphone
With the turntable plugged in and turned on, go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Sound > Input. Do you see the USB Audio CODEC there?
See this page in the wiki.
– Bill
Yes. It is highlighted.

I get a high pitched sound in my computer because it is picture up external sounds from my computer microphone. If I’m completely silent and attempt to play a record, I get nothing on the VU meters. My Apple preferences show USB Audio CODEC highlighted.
Quit and restart Audacity. Can you select USB Audio CODEC in the Device Toolbar?
– Bill
Hello Bill
No I can’t open CODEC in toolbar, but I can pick it up in Apple system preferences.

Then I am at a loss to explain this. If an input is available in System Preferences > Sound > Input then it should be available in Audacity.
One last thing to try. Do Tools > Reset Configuration. Then quit Audacity. Make sure the turntable is connected and turned on. Then start Audacity. Try to select USB Audio CODEC from the recording dropdown in the Device toolbar.

I’m on the road to recovery. I now see USB CODEC in my recording drop down. I tried recording from vinyl, but still on registering on VU. Any suggestions for what I should do next?
Mitch
Typo. No VU registering.

Hello Bill - You are amazing! It finally works. I was prepared to set a match to the turntable or sell it on Ebay. Thanks a million for not only your time, but your patience. Wish you were here, I’d give you a slab of my smoked ribs from my restaurant. Again, thanks from a dinosaur when it comes to computers.
Mitch
Glad it’s working. Could you tell us what step got you over the hump? Was is resetting the preferences?
– Bill
Hello Bill
The issue was resolved when I reset the configuration in tools, then quit audacity and restart with turntable running. I used the drop down in recording and selected USB CODEC. The primary problem was with my Apple computer. I had to go to system preferences, security and privacy check microphone and Audacity, (I clicked the lock to unlock and make changes).
