USB CODEC device no longer recognized after Big Sur update

I’m running Mac OS 11.2.3 and Audacity 2.4.2. Since I updated the OS on my iMac, Audacity no longer recognizes my USB codec device (a Behringer UCA222). The device is working when I plug it into my Macbook (which is running a much earlier operating system).

I have restarted the computer and the external device. I’ve done Transport > Rescan Audio Devices. Any ideas?

Go to Apple (menu) > System Preferences > Sound > Input. Does the UCA-222 show up there?

Yes. And when I’m sending audio through it, it shows a bounce.

I found the solution and my import device is now working again. A post from 2/5/19 solved the problem for me:

A problem of no recording level in Audacity may occur in some versions of macOS due to Apple changing the “Privacy” settings for recording devices.
Note that although macOS refers to this setting as “Microphone”, it applies to all recording devices, including external USB / Thunderbolt interfaces.

To fix this problem:
On your Mac, choose “Apple menu > System Preferences, click Security & Privacy”, then click Privacy.
Click Microphone.
Select the tickbox next to an app to allow it to access the microphone. Deselect the tickbox to turn off access for that app.

Thanks, Steve!

You’re welcome
