URGENT HELP: Cleaning up iPhone audio in audacity

Need some quick help for a school project ASAP. Recorded something on my iPhone voice memo app but when I upload it Audacity (converted MP3 or 4 to Wav) it plays back all distorted. Any tips on the Hz I should use or anything else to clean up the audio? Doesn’t have to be professional quality — it was an iPhone mic after all — just pretty decent. Thank you and I’ll love you forever if you help me figure this out!!!

Does it sound OK when played on the phone? If not,“distortion” is generally impossible to fix, but there are different kinds of distortion.

If it is OK on the phone, how did you “upload” it, and does the MP3 sound OK before you make a WAV?

What was the something? If you’re recording a live band, very few people come away from those with a clean recording. I’ve had very good luck with Voice Memo, but I know which microphone was being used. If you’re on an iPhone there’s different microphones on different sides of the phone.

If you’re hand-holding it, you could have loud handling, skin and clothing noises.

Can you post some of the sound? If it’s a mono track (one blue wave), you can go out to 20 seconds.
