Unable to Paste - Error Importing

I am unable to paste.
I can highlight a selection of audio, then copy (or cut), but when I press paste I get the error:

Error Importing:
Cannot import AUP3 format. Use File > Open instead.

I’m using Audacity 3.7.0, the AppImage (22.04) from audacityteam.org, on Debian 12.

Additional information: After emptying my Clipboard via the Clipboard tray entry in Plasma, copying and pasting works as it should.

Is this expected behavior in Linux? Is there any setting in Audacity I can set, or do I just need to remember to keep my clipboard empty when working in Audacity? Until now I only have experience using Audacity in Windows.
