all of a sudden I’m unable to import any files. not wav, mp3, etc. I have redownloaded the ffmeg library and even uninstalled and reinstalled audacity and it still isn’t working. I can’t figure out why.
By “uninstalling / installing” you do not touch the settings which may cause the problem.
Move the whole settings folder out of its place - in Windows, I think it is somewhere in
%appdata%/Roaming

If you are using an older version of Audacity please provide exact details and windows version too.
Unfortunately, this solution does not solve the problem. In my case, Audacity 3.7.9 clearly can run the latest FFmpeg dll to read m4a files, but Audacity 4 using the same FFmpeg dll cannot read m4a files at all. If you have a better solution, I’d love to hear it. Thanks.

I am trying to use Audacity 4 on Windows 11 Pro (with all Windows updates) but it is not playing well with the current version of FFmpg.
Audacity 3.7.9 clearly can run the latest FFmpeg dll to identify and import m4a files, but Audacity 4 using the same FFmpeg dll cannot see or import m4a files at all into a project. However, wav and mp3 files are importable in both Audacity 3 and 4.
Importing m4a files are critical to my work, so this is a serious bug that prevents me from using Audacity 4.
