Two tracks to one

Hi! I’m using Audacity 1.2.3 in Windows 07 Xp.
I am so discourage of I how am I gonna do with my this track that I’ve recorded. It goes this way when it start I recorded a voice then it suddenly stop so I mute it and then I started another one so it became 2 tracts. But when I saved it, it turned that the two tracts has become 1 tract. I saved it manually in wave like muting the first tract and putting solo the second tract. Then how come that it has been one tract I mean it merge to the other track. And now when I play it there’s already two voices… Hmmmmmm :frowning: Can you help me this is really important because it’s the prophesy of the members of our church. I’ve read some of the conversation, but I can’t help myself to ask how it happen, I was so very careful when I saved it… :frowning: What should I do now??? Please help… :frowning: :frowning:

Hi Please don’t post on the end of someone else’s topic especially if it is nothing to do with your issue. I started this new topic for you.

Please don’t. 1.2.3 is years old and we won’t answer questions about it.

You have either got Windows 7 or XP, “07 XP” does not exist.

Either XP or WIndows 7 is suitable for the latest Audacity 2.0.2. Please uninstall your 1.2.3 and install 2.0.2 from here:
Audacity ® | Download for Windows .

Did you stop it by pressing the yellow Stop button?

If you use 2.0.2, a muted track does not export, but in 1.2 versions a muted track is exported.

Were these two stereo recorded tracks? If so, they will be mixed together into one stereo track on export as WAV because the tracks are at the same point in time.

If the second recording was meant to follow on from the first you have to use the Time Shift Tool that looks like this

<—>

to drag the second recording to the end of the first one.

Another thing you can do in 2.0.2 is to “Append Record”. If you hold SHIFT on the keyboard then click the red Record button, Audacity will record at the end of any tracks that are selected (see Audacity Manual ) .

Otherwise if you record when there is already another track present, the recording happens in a new track.

Sorry about that, it’s Windows XP.

Did you stop it by pressing the yellow Stop button?

  • No.

Were these two stereo recorded tracks? If so, they will be mixed together into one stereo track on export as WAV because the tracks are at the same point in time.

  • So that means it cannot be separated.

Otherwise if you record when there is already another track present, the recording happens in a new track.

  • Yes, that’s what happen.

If you use 2.0.2, a muted track does not export, but in 1.2 versions a muted track is exported.

  • So if I use the 2.0.2 version of Audacity, there is the possibility to separate the 2 voices that has been merge in to 1 tract???

If you have exported the two stereo tracks so they are now mixed into one track, you can’t unmix them in any version, it’s like pouring milk into your coffee.

If you saved an Audacity project (AUP) that contains the two separate tracks, you can reopen that project and use Time Shift Tool as explained above to drag the second track to the end of the first one, then export again. You can do the same if you have not saved a project but still have the window open that has the two tracks.

Ms Gale is there any remedy or techniques or least that I can do to just lessen the other voice and the other one should be heard more loudly and understandable? And vice versa? If there is, can you teach me?

It’s really hardly worth trying I’m afraid. For example if the recordings were stereo and in one recording the voice was mostly in the left and in the other recording the voice was mostly in the right, you could effect some considerable improvement. Otherwise, and especially if it is a mono recording, you have very little chance.

If you want to, you can click in the waveform, drag a selection lasting a few seconds where both voices are mixed together, then File > Export Selection and choose WAV (I assume you have Audacity 2.0.2 now). Then attach the WAV (see https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1 for how to attach files).

Gale (By the way, I’m male).

Then what should now after having the new version. How can minimize the other voice?

Please read my previous post. I think you will be wasting your time and ours by posting a sample of the audio you want to disentangle, but if you want to post it, feel free. See https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1 for how to attach files.
