Two copies Audacity running

Hallo
I am on Mac OS Mojave
and I use Audacity 2.3…
The system has detected that another copy of Audacity is running.
Please, can you help?
Many Thanks
riccardo

The “Audacity is already running” problem occurs when Audacity is not shut down properly, leaving a “lock file” in place even though Audacity is not actually running. To fix the problem, you need to manually delete the lock file. See here for details: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/audacity-is-already-running-error-solved/49717/4

I really don’t know that much about my Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.6. I’ve tried following the directions about go to Finder and search ~/Library/Application Support/audacity and nothing comes up. I downloaded Audacity 2.3.1 and was told “Audacity is already running”. I’ve searched for any evidence of Audacity’s existence and see none. I really am technically challenged when it comes to this and really need someone to take me by the hand and outline each step no matter how inconsequential or obvious they may seem to you and walk me through this like you were explaining it to a cell because I seriously don’t understand the solution. Thanks for any help. Ed

Use “Go” from the main Mac menu, and copy/paste this address to open it in Finder:

~/Library/Application Support/audacity

In there you should see a folder called “Session Data”. Open that folder, and delete any file you find therein.
