From the manual I am supposed to be able to right click on the timeline to get a box where I can disable “quick play” - right clicking on the timeline does nothing, id there any other way of accessing this box or disabling “quick play”?
You’ve not said which version of Audacity, or which version of Windows or whether you installed Audacity using the recommended installer or the ZIP version.
Timeline Quick-Play can be turned off in Audacity 2.1.1 (not yet released).
Timeline Quick-Play cannot be turned off in Audacity 2.1.0 (current release version).
If you installed Audacity using the recommended Windows installer, the correct version of the manual is available via the Help menu.

Sorry about that, version 2.1.0 using the recommended installer. I have it installed on windows XP and Windows 7, both have the same issue.
The dialogue box does not appear when the timeline is right clicked so I can’t even turn it off temporarily.

I have been searching up ways to turn this feature off because I have never had this feature turned on before. I haven’t had internet for years. I use audacity to edit my own audio and then I download that onto a memory stick and upload from my phone. So the fact that this turned on leads me to believe it could be turned off. the green triangle at the top of my timeline that I used to just left click on to my footage. Start playback or recording from that position. It has now turned into this annoying red thing. Are you saying there is no way to get rid of that now? Anytime I right-click my timeline it just says timeline quick play has been enabled. I’ve been using this program again for years and I have never seen this thing until now.
