Turn off automatic speed on import

I’ve been an audacity user for years and I love the program, but recently there was a
feature" added which will automatically slow down or speed up clips, presumably to match the bpm of whatever song you’re working on. But I work on voice acting, and the result of this is that random clips of 20 to 30 that I import will be sped up and I have to change it. Sometimes it askes me if I want it to be automatically adjusted, sometimes it just does it for me. And what’s causing me to post here is that this time something similar has happened with no indication that it’s happened.

Included is an audacity project file where I uploaded about 20-30 lines, and these three have significant artifacting that the others as well as the original files just don’t have. I don’t know if this is related to the speed issue since they sound the same speed to me. If there is an explanation for this phenomenon as well as a way to disable automatic speed compensation I would be very happy, because otherwise this is a fantastic program and I truly love what Muse Group has been doing with it.

This question has been raised multiple times, and it has been suggested that it will be improved in Audacity 4.

The workaround that I read on the GitHub “issues” section was:

  1. Set the Timeline to minutes and seconds, NOT beats and measures.
  2. Disable the Time Signature Toolbar (in “View menu > Toolbars”)
  3. Set “Preferences > Import / Export > Music Imports” to “Do Nothing”.

These 3 changes combined will disable automatic stretch.

i’ve tried this but it still does not work tho…

In what way does it “not work”?

hey, I’ve tried to do the 3 changes as you described earlier, then I saved & closed and reopened the project, trying to copy a clip of another project into it, but the pasted clip still gets slowed down to 49% the original speed. When I check the settings for Timeline and Time Signature Toolbar, it’s all just like I adjusted it before closing it…
