Can this be done? If so, I have no idea how to do it, and I would appreciate assistance. I tried a forum search, but evidently “mono” and “stereo” are too generic to be usable.
Make a copy of the mono track.
Click on the name of one of the tracks and set it to “Left Channel” in the drop down menu.
Click on the name of the other track and set it to “Right Channel” in the drop down menu.
Select BOTH tracks (Ctrl + A selects “all”)
Then select from the main menu “Tracks → Mix and Render”

Faster method:
Click Project (or Tracks) → New Stereo Track
Highlight both and then Quick Mix (or Mix and Render)
Or to avoid the need to do the rendering:
- create a duplicate track and set the track modes as stevethefiddle describes
- Click on the upper track’s drop-down menu and select “Make Stereo Track”
