trying to export midi and other files

I recorded a piano track via MIDI and a few other tracks through a microphone, and I cannot export any MP3s together as a single file. Either I can only get the non MIDI tracks (if I try exporting it as a WAV, OGG, or MP3) or if I do export MIDI, it ONLY exports the MIDI. I tried the exporting multiple and exporting audio options, but none of those options work neither.

Audacity isn’t a MIDI application although it has some very-limited MIDI capabilities.

You might want to try Cakewalk which is now FREE, or another DAW. Or, perhaps you can use whatever software you’re using to “record” the MIDI keyboard.

Let’s parse that a bit. You played a MIDI-enabled keyboard and sent the MIDI programming language to the Audacity machine. For Audacity (or any app) to play the music, it would have to search for a software keyboard on the computer and play that.

Then, Audacity has to connect to the system sound and record the internal keyboard instead of the normal microphone or Line-In.

Then Audacity can mix the music from the MIDI keyboard with the other music on your system.

Most of this happens in the background which is why most people think MIDI’s a sound format.

It’s not.

Audcaity played it back just fine. It played the MIDI and the non-MIDI tracks together with no problems. But when I try exporting it, it’s either only the MIDI or everything except for the MIDI.

Are you saying that Audcaity is incapable of combining the two files in a single export? That’s all I want to know.

To combine the MIDI and audio in one single exported file, you have to record the MIDI playback.
When you listen to MIDI, you are not actually hearing the “MIDI”. MIDI is just data (not sound). “MIDI playback” sends the MIDI data to a synthesizer, which on Windows is usually Windows own built-in “MIDI Synth”. It should be possible to record that with Audacity in the same way as recording any other sounds that are playing on your computer. See: Tutorial - Recording Computer Playback on Windows - Audacity Manual (the “WASAPI loopback” method is recommended for Windows Vista and later).
