Transferring minidisc files to Mac

Hello,

I would like to transfer files from my old minidisc player to my Mac via Audacity. I did so many years ago but can’t remember how. I have connected a stereo cable from the line-out port of the minidisc player to the line-in port of a Behringer UCA202, then connected the Behringer to the USB port of my Mac. Is this correct? When I play the Minidisc, I do not see any activity in Audacity. What should I do? I’m using Audacity 3.7.1 and MacOS 12.5.

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Kind regards,
Kristina

I’m a Windows guy, but your hardware setup is correct.

Make sure you’ve selected the USB device as your recoding device and check your Privacy/Security Settings.

Thanks for your reply.
Where/how do I select the USB device as my recording device?

Audio Setup

I have selected USB (audio codec) as the recording device and given Audacity access to the microphone in the security settings - but there is still no activity in Audacity when I play my minidisc.

You need to grant access to “Microphone” for Audacity in system settings / privacy and security.

You MIGHT have to give permission specifically to the USB device, unless the Mac “thinks” the USB device is a microphone.

Are you sure the MiniDisc player working? Have you plugged it into an amplifier (or something)?

You can also try plugging something else into the Behringer to test your setup.

…Like I said I’m a Windows guy but FYI - The Behringer is class compliant so it uses the drivers that come with the operating system and it should work with any application that runs on your computer.
