The MP3 option suddenly disappears in the dropdown menu

I use Audacity daily and most of my files are exported as MP3 files, but occasionally and for no reason that I know of, the MP3 option disappears. And every time I look for solutions or answers on how to fix this, I find little to any information online to correct the problem. Why is this happening? And how do I fix it when it happens?

I don’t know why it happens but go to Edit → Preferences → Modules and make sure “mod-mp3” (and everything else) is enabled.

Ok I will try that when it does it again! It is SO frustrating when it happens because I am a traffic reporter and when it does this it causes me to miss reports! Thank you for responding!

You can get a 3rd-party format converter in case you get “stuck”. Export as WAV and use the other application to convert to MP3. I use Kabuu Audio Converter (on Windows) when I want to convert without editing.

It’s an extra step but once you’ve set-up your output format and output location it’s just drag, drop, and click and you can convert a batch of files at once, although you probably don’t need that in your situation.

Do it now so the display is familiar and you know what it’s supposed to look like.
