Tempo isnt the same

Hi

I am having trouble with recording vocals with Audacity because everything I record sounds PERFECT for the music track I’m using it with(the music track is in FL Studio). By this, I mean that if I push play on the music track in FL Studio and I push play at the right time on Audacity, I can hear a sinc just as perfect as how I recorded it.

However, when I export the vocal file to WAV, it is no longer the same speed but slightly faster in FL Studio and in any other playback device I use. I have done ALL SORTS of troubleshooting including changing the sample rate(in the left hand-bottom corner of Audacity) and changing the preferences concerning export. i tried changing the audio input and the output devices and found no change at all. The thing I find interesting is that after exporting the file to WAV, I can import it and it will play at the same speed as the original file perfectly.

I’ve tried changing the sample rate in FL Studio. I’m not willing to play with the Tempo options for hours just to sync a few vocals and then do it all over again and again and again when I already took the time to record in sync and such a thing shouldnt be a problem(wasn’t a problem when I used to use Microsoft’s wav recorder but it doesnt work on my new computer).

Please anyone help me…I’ll appreciate every second of serious effort to help me find a solution. I’m even willing to ditch Audacity all together because this is just ridiculous to me(and like I said, never had this problem with other software so I’m blaming audacity rather than FL Studio). In fact i’d greatly appreciate suggestions for a better program to record vocals on than Audacity. Many hours of my life wasted and I’m far behind in my musical pursuit.

Thanks

How much faster is it?

I know that you say that you have done “ALL SORTS of troubleshooting including changing the sample rate(in the left hand-bottom corner of Audacity) and changing the preferences concerning export”, but it does sound like you have a sample rate mismatch.

If you generate a click track at 120 bpm in Audacity (Generate menu) and export it as a WAV file with the project rate set to 44100 (bottom left corner of the main Audacity screen), then play that file in Windows Media Player, does it play at 120 bpm?

If it does, import it into FL. Does it still play at 120 bpm?

If it does, record yourself clapping at exactly 120 bpm (or record an accurate metronome)
Does it play back in Audacity at 120 bpm?
If it does, export it as a WAV file with the project rate set to 44100 and try it in WMP.
If that plays OK, try it in FL.

Where does it go wrong?

OMG I GOT IT!

Alright so I had the exact same problem. what you want to do is in the imported audio in FL Studio you want to go to the channel rack (assuming you used it to play your audio) then click on the sound’s name the you will get a menu: “ (Master)”. At the top left of it there will be 3 buttons: an audio one, one with 3 circles connected y 2 lines, and a spanner. Go to the second one and on the further right side in the middle of the menu there will be a knob labeled “speed”… turn it all the way down. No idea why this is a default thing or how it works but I mean it solves the problem.

Hope it helps!
