A while back I purchased a TONOR Super USB Cassette Capture. I want to copy some old homemade cassette tapes. The device came with a mini CD to load software on to my computer. What software do I need to download?
The “mini CD” probably contains only an outdated / very old version of Audacity.
I’m sorry. I should have been more specific. My computer doesn’t have a CD drive. If I download the current version of Audacity, will it work with this older cassette capture device?
You don’t need the CD, you don’t need a CD drive.
You should just download the latest version of Audacity from their website.
Older versions are also available from Fosshub. I myself am still at version 3.4.2.
I don’t know of anyone who has gotten on of those devices to work on a Mac. It will appear, then disappear, in the Mac Sound Preferences panel and in Audacity.
The only way folks have found to make it useful is to buy an audio-USB interface (such as the Behringer UCA-202) and connect the cassette to the Behringer by way of the headphone jack (you’ll also need a special cable).
