Would this still be impossible to use with some kind of plug-in update that is recent or an updated software? I tried the old Installation CD Ver 47.1A and while I could pull up the manual pdfs, obviously it’s no longer compatible.
Just wondering if there is an online update that would be able to be used or if I just have to throw this out and start over. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Cher
Well, I do not have any idea what a “Super USB cassette capture” should be… can you please explain, and maybe post a link to the manual of this supercalifragilistig device? Also, we probably all have no idea what’s on the “installation CD Ver 47.1A”.
If you are using a Mac, and if the soud really comes out of the device via USB, you do not need to install any software on your computer other than Audacity. Not with macOS Sequoia and not with all other, older versions of macOS.
So, please tell us more what you did and what did (not) work as expected.

You haven’t mentioned anything that would require a plug-in.
The current version of Audacity is here. If you just want Audacity (free and open source) and don’t want to sign-up for anything extra, “Download without Muse Hub”.
If all goes well, it’s a simple matter of going into Audacity’s Audio Setup and selecting the USB device as your Recording Device, and then click Record.
Thise little USB cassette players are plug-and-play with the drivers supplied with your operating system but for some reason, Mac users sometimes have trouble with them. (Maybe they are just cheaply made?)
It’s not Audacity or the Mac but for some reason Mac users seem to report more problems with these cheap USB cassette players than other users. Probably just a coincidence.
Of course, Mac users expect everything to work out of the box. But since there are always more “bad guys” around, recent versions of macOS have introduced some security features which were not necessary before. These new security features also exist in Windows, they are not Mac-specific. For example the need to “grant access to microphone” for recording sound, and more. But I think, Mac users are more like “trial and error”-persons than “read the manual”-persons…
So, enough off-topic talk. Let’s see what CherQuestions has to say.
The “Super USB Cassette Capture” device (and its clones) have always had problems on Mac. It shows up as a “PnP USB Audio Device”. It has a habit of disconnecting for no reason anyone has been able to discern.
Go to the Mac Sound Settings and set it as an input. Many users have been able to watch it disappear at this point.
My point is that this is not a problem with Audacity, nor with recent versions of macOS. This has been going on for years, for many users, through many versions of macOS, with this particular device.
If you want to continue to use this device to record cassettes into Audacity, the most reliable way is to get a Behringer UCA-202 (or similar) USB audio interface. You can then run the headphone output of the cassette into the Behringer.
