straight lines no sound

I’m a newby. I’m trying to convert my cassette tapes to dvds. I downloaded audacity. , but I’m not sure I have the hookup right. I have a mic to mic cable. When I hit record it shows the lines but, without any peaks. Help Len

You want to connect from (preferably) line out of the tape deck (or failing that, from headphones out of the tape deck) to line-in (blue) of the computer. The mic port (pink) will likely only be mono or poor stereo.

Then open Audacity’s Device Toolbar and set the third (input) box to the line-in.

Then click the Transport Menu at the top and click on “Software Playthrough (on/off)” so that it has a tick (checkmark). This lets you hear the recording while you make it.
