Is this possible? A monitor with on-board speakers connected to my GPU through an HDMI cable is my only audio source at the moment. I have Stereo Mix enabled and set as the default recording device, as well as the latest realtek audio drivers. Although I supposed if I have nothing connected in the back (I have 6 free ports) then I’m not taking advantage of that? Sorry, my audio knowledge is very limited. I also have audio ports in the back of my monitor. I have a pair of earbuds, but every time I plug them in a realtek dialogue pops up with many options (line in, speaker out) and im not sure which to choose as videos I’ve watched have you using both.
I think you’ll just have to try it… It may depend on the particular driver. I would assume Stereo Mix will record whatever is going to your HDMI port.

Speaker Out. Earbuds & headphones are really just tiny speakers.
That dialog means that the analog port can be configured either as input or output. I’ve seen that before, but in general, that’s very unusal for a “normal” audio device. Usually an output is an output and an input is an input. On an iPhone, there is a connector for both input and output (mic and earphones), but they are separate wires/connections on the same connector. USB (digital) is also bi-directional.
The signal/sound comes out of an output, and goes into an input. For example, on a laptop, there is usually one mic input, and one headphone/speaker output.
Sound comes into the mic. A signal comes out of the mic and into the mic-input. A signal comes out of the headphone output and into the headphones (or speakers). If you want to connect your computer to your stereo system, you connect the line (or headphone) output (out of the computer) to a line-input (into the amplifier/receiver).
Okay making progress here. I plugged my earbuds into the port labeled “Headphones” according to my realtek GUI thing. It said headphone, but when I plugged it in, the checkbock choices were line in and rear speaker out. Not sure if that distinction is important, but I chose rear speaker out obviously. Afterwards, I told Stereo Mix to listen to that port and I’m now getting some activity from Stereo Mix. The problem is that it only works if I set that port as my default playback device which I don’t want. What I want to do is hear sound through my monitor, while picking up sound through the earbuds, but have the earbuds muted, if that’s even possible. Another problem is that when I boost Stereo Mix past ~50, it begins to severely distort my audio into a high-pitch that sounds almost like crickets chirping (this is with my earbuds on my floor keep in mind).
Nevermind, just figured it out. Thank you for your help!
