Split stereo then save as two separate files - is this possible?

Greetings:
I’m new to Audacity, so please bear with me
I’ve got 82 mp3 files that I need to split to be able to play as 164 separate files
I’ve found out how to Split Stereo Track and Split Stereo to Mono, I think I need to perform the latter. But when I export them, I’m still getting both tracks together
Is there a reasonable way to do this?

Thank you!

I tried this:

Use Split Stereo Track.
You’ll now have a Left and a Right track.
Pan L-R of each track to Center (0).

I must not have explained things properly
I need to split the tracks, then export the individual tracks as separate mp3 files
I do not wish to put them back together, ever

Thanks!

You explained correctly.
Did you export the two files?

When I export, I browse for the directory I want to save to, then choose Multiple and Mono (if not already set), then Export.
I end up with two mono mp3 files. One is the left track, the other is the right track.

I don’t know what version you have but I have v3.5.1.

I also did this with Split Stereo to Mono.
With this method, Pan will be set to center on both tracks, so you can skip panning to center. Saves one step.
Then export the files.

OK, I see now what you are referring to. The first post did not go into detail about the actual export. Unfortunately, I’m putting the files into separate sub-directories for left and right tracks (different file names, too), so this won’t quite do it
What I have found can be done is to:
1. Split Stereo Track
2. Mute the right track and export into the left sub-directory
3. Un-mute the right track, mute the left track, and export into the right sub-directory
Seems to be doing the trick, but with lots of steps

Thank you!!

It will be much faster to export all tracks to one directory, and then select every second file in the file manager and transfer it to the desired directory
