Spectrogram and Multi-View disabled (greyed out) in Audacity 4 on macOS

In Audacity 4 (macOS), the options Track view → Spectrogram and Multi-view are permanently greyed out for existing and newly created tracks.

Changing the workspace, creating new tracks, setting default track view to Spectrogram/Multi-view, restarting Audacity, creating new projects and tracks in moni does not resolve the issue. The track remains locked to Waveform view only.

This occurs even with standard audio files (WAV/AIFF, 48 kHz, 32-bit float, stereo or mono). The issue appears to be a UI/state regression.

I should be able to switch any audio track between Waveform, Spectrogram, and Multi-view at any time.

Actual behavior:
Spectrogram and Multi-view are disabled and cannot be selected.

Environment:
• Audacity 4.x
• macOS
• Audio files imported or copied into the project

Thanks for your help.

From the Audacity 4 Alpha download page:

What’s not implemented

Some yet-to-be finalized features might appear non-functional, or have been excluded from Audacity’s interface. These are features not yet ready for user testing, and have been disabled.

  • Nyquist, LADSPA and VAMP and the OpenVINO plugins

  • Preferences from Audacity 3 are not carried over

  • Envelopes and label tracks

  • Spectrogram view and the spectral editing mode

  • Most built-in effects, including generators and analyzers

  • Opening multiple projects at the same time

@kvox we have just added the spectrogram view, it is available in master builds. You can try it out here: [AU4] Build: macOS · audacity/audacity@fa55c75 · GitHub , but be aware that it is extremely unstable at the moment.
