I recently installed Audacity 3.2.2 on my MacBook pro with M1 pro chip.
I want to use the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones to record and I can see them in the input devices in Audacity. But there is no recording happnening when I choose WH-1000XM5 as the input. I am able to use other recording devices.
Appreciate any help in resolving this.
Thanks a lot.
From what I found the WH-1000XM5 doesn’t have a microphone. It’s a playback device, not a recording device… Is that correct? (It would have microphones for noise cancelation but maybe not for recording.)
So that would indicate Audacity has permission to use the microphone…
So it is curious that Sony promotes these as headphones when they are actually headsets, including “4 beamforming microphones” for “precise voice pickup”.
If you contact Sony, I am sure they can give you some assurance that these headphones are working properly.
I saw a report on Amazon that a customer couldn’t get his Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones to work properly without installing a firmware update. Have you tried this? Also, there can be bluetooth related issues.
Also, does the microphone work properly with your phone? How about with other software on your Mac? Search Google for “how to test headset on a mac”.
