Sony Movie Studio

I’ve been using Audacity for recording without a hitch for years.
Yesterday I was in a new program of mine - Sony Movie Studio. I wanted to edit just the sound track. When I chose “audio editor” a popup asked me if i wanted to go to my audio editor. I selected yes. The program loaded Audacity and started Audacity automatically!

The next day I went to record something with Audacity and up popped an error box “Error while opening sound device. Please check the recording device settings and the project sample rate”. I re-installed Audacity and chose default preferences. I’m still getting the same error message.

Any ideas how Movie Studio screwed up my recording capability?

What are you recording? Exactly. Model numbers, makers.

If you’re in Windows and reinstall Audacity 2.1.0 or 2.1.1, it will ask you for permission to reset all your settings and customizations. Say yes. If you don’t, you may get exactly the same Audacity that just left.

… or, in other words, when asked if I wanted to keep my old preferences I chose “No”.

… but i managed to get everything working again, although I’m not really sure how.

If you see the error again, have a look at http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_errors.html#sound_device.
