Hello. It looks that in Audacity it is not possible to show cut lines at the beginning and final points of a deleted (with ‘Del’ key) or of a pasted section. Mark lines shown only for sections which were removed using the ‘cut’ function.
I need to get mark lines shown also for deleted and for pasted sections, so that I can find and refine the joint points. There is a way to show them in Audacity? I find strange that a so basic function is missing (if it is not yet present). When you paste a selection with similar audio you can find no more where the joint points were located.
As you noticed, for most edit commands, the clip boundaries are automatically joined. This is because it is usually the desired behaviour. If that’s not what you want, just press “Ctrl + i” immediately after the edit. That will restore the splits.
Note that Audacity also has “Split Cut” and “Split Delete” (Edit menu > Remove special) for when you want to cut / delete audio and retain the gap.
Hi, thank you very much for the hint. I can actually use it as “workaround”. Of course I want that the pasted sections are joined too. This is anyway automatically done when you export the file. But it is important that you can always have under view (at lease until you export and close the file) the points where the pasted sections begin and end, so that you can find and trim them at anytime during the editing. For example the Nero Wave Editor shows always the cut lines for all edit actions and pasted sections. I am trying to migrate to Audacity, because it is not open source, and I find this behavior very useful.
